Twinsburg High School Boys Trip to El Salvador - June, 2012

This is a picture of our Twinsburg boys with the people of San Isidro in El Salvador.  This community is very poor and needs a lot of TLC.  When we first arrived in San Isidro to help tear down a half washed away "home", our boys were timid and not very social, but after a few hours the kids in the community grew on them and they began to embrace the kids and their poverty.

The most important thing one can give to the poor is themselves.  After you bring supplies, food, paint, and toys, you leave lighter. Maybe the poor are happier for that moment, but if you do not spend any time with them, real quality time, then it will be YOU who leaves with less.  When you break down the barriers and love the poor you give yourself a gift and the people you came to serve a gift.

Share the moment!

Other projects we helped with were: distributing hundreds of soccer equipment to the school in Teotepeque, painted a school inside and outside, and sponsoring a HUGE fiesta in Mizata, where we played tons of games and shared in a community meal which fed over 300 people.

Feel like Giving this Easter? We Need Help

As many of you already now, a group of 12 teens and adults are going to be traveling to El Salvador for a teen mission trip.  We will be renovating a very old/dilapidated school in San Pedro.

As part of our gift this poor community, we would like to provide the children with new school supplies.  We really need your help and there is no better time to help the poor than in the spirit of Lent and Easter.

There are 2 ways to help:

  • Bring your donation of new school supplies or reading glasses to the Twinsburg Library from April 2 to May 26th.  There will be a donation box at the main entrance that says: "EL SALVADOR YOUTH MISSION TRIP."  Just place your donation in that box....it's that simple!
  • We are also looking for money to buy a gas card, Chipotle, movie, Dick's, and Best buy gift cards for a raffle we are having at Twinsburg High School the week of April 23rd.  The kids will be given a raffle ticket for every new item they bring in.  The raffle ticket will be for a chance at a "Teen Basket" filled with the above goodies.
To donate money for the raffle (or gift cards), please email Joyce at jdcolovas@aol.com to arrange for a drop off.  All donations are tax deductible.

I am so proud of these kids....let's help them help others.

Gracias,

Joyce

YOUTH TRIP TO EL SALVADOR CAN USE SOME DONATIONS....

Dear Friends,

On June 12, 2012 I will be taking a group of teenage boys and their parents on a mission trip to El Salvador.  The purpose of the trip is two-fold, first it is meant to encourage our teens to interact with other teenagers in El Salvador for the purposes of learning each other's cultures as well as to breakdown language, social, and economic barriers; and second, it is to work side by side with one another while we renovate a VERY dilapidated school.  In addition to the physical work, the kids will also organize a community meal where we will serve approximately 400 of the most extremely poor people.

Below are a few pictures of the school we will renovate.  If you would like to help, we welcome your contributions! We are collecting the following items:  school supplies, drawstring gym bags, soccer shoes, socks and underwear, reading glasses, and sunglasses.  You can drop off your donation at the Twinsburg Library during regular business hours, or call Joyce at 440-552-9008.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
